Since May 13, India has imposed a ban on export of wheat. As a result, the retail price of wheat flour has increased by up to Rs 10 per kg while the domestic flour mills are largely affected by the shortage of raw material.

There are 36 flour mills operational in the country. An estimated 1 million tons of wheat is needed for the current fiscal year, according to the Nepal Flour Mills Association. While the domestic production of wheat stands at 350,000 tons, the remaining amount is mostly imported from India.
