Govt expands access to broadband internet service at all local levels

KATHMANDU, May 27: The government has expanded broadband internet service to the centers of all local levels across the country.


Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun shared this information while presenting the economic survey for 2080/81 BS in the House of Representatives on Sunday.



The centers of 5,951 wards at the local levels now have access to broadband internet.


Similarly, 4,272 health centers and 5,341 community secondary schools have received this facility.

The expansion has helped ensure uniformity in the website format of all local levels. A total of 63 bodies associated with 263 local levels have made their websites live.


A total of 838 virtual machines are in operation for the use of IT systems in 340 government agencies utilizing cloud services.


By the end of Falgun 2080 BS, the registration of daily newspapers stood at 765, biweekly newspapers at 39, and weekly newspapers at 298.


So far, a total of 7,997 newspapers have been registered, with Nepali language newspapers dominating the media landscape at 5,376, while Rai language newspapers number only two.


Moreover, the numbers of FM radio stations and television channels in regular operation are 720 and 107, respectively, Minister Pun shared.
