Govt deploys large number of security personnel from Maitighar to Baneshwar in Capital

KATHMANDU, Feb 18: The government has deployed a large number of security personnel in the area from Maitighar to Baneshwar Chowk in Kathmandu after various parties staged protests against the US-funded Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). Clashes also broke out in the area on Wednesday between activists of various parties and security personnel.

KATHMANDU, Feb 18: The government has deployed a large number of security personnel in the area from Maitighar to Baneshwar Chowk in Kathmandu after various parties staged protests against the US-funded Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). Clashes also broke out in the area on Wednesday between activists of various parties and security personnel.

There are differences between the ruling parties over whether or not to approve the MCC. Of the five ruling parties, the Nepali Congress is in favor of ratifying the MCC agreement, while the CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), People's Socialist Party Nepal, and Rastriya Janamorcha Party are in favor of approving the MCC grant agreement only after amending it.
