Govt decisions for COVID-19 prevention and control to be effectively implemented

KATHMANDU, Jan 19: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has decided to further effectively implement all the recommendations furnished by the COVID-19 Crisis Management Coordination Center (CCMC) and the government in a bid to prevent and control COVID-19.

The meeting of representatives from various ministries chaired by Minister for Home Affairs Balkrishna Khand on Tuesday took a decision to this effect.

The CCMC had recommended a new provision that people must keep the vaccination card (hard or soft copy) with them to go around in public places from January 21.

In the meeting, Minister Khand said that the government was serious and sensitive toward containing the contagion. Stating that it was the responsibility of the government to protect the lives of the citizens, Home Minister Khand directed all the concerned ministries' authorities to work sensitively for the same.

The meeting was attended by secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Tek Narayan Pandey, secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Roshan Pokharel, Nepal Police IGP Shailesh Thapa, Armed Police Force' IGP Shailendra Khanal among others. 

Meanwhile, the meeting decided to allow schools to open from January 30 to February 3 to vaccinate the students, according to Pradeep Koirala, chief of the Disaster Management Unit in the MoHA. 

The schools and universities can conduct exams observing the health safety protocols against COVID-19. Passengers should show a vaccination card while procuring tickets for air travel. 

The meeting also decided that service-seekers in emergency situations needing e-passport and national identity cards would only be allowed for this service while the service would be shut down temporarily for others. 

The Nepal Police Hospital and Armed Police Force will administer COVID-19 vaccines to the general public as well, the meeting decided. Vaccines will be administered to foreigners in Nepal as well, according to the meeting.
