Govt collects over Rs 7 million in fines from unscrupulous traders in four months

KATHMANDU, Nov 28: The government collected Rs 7.11 million in cash fines from the traders who have been found flouting the consumer related laws in the first four months of the current fiscal year.

KATHMANDU, Nov 28: The government collected Rs 7.11 million in cash fines from the traders who have been found flouting the consumer related laws in the first four months of the current fiscal year.



According to the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection (DoCSCP), the government authorities inspected 1,355 firms during mid-July and mid-November. Of them, 667 face the on-spot cash penalty.

Most of these firms were taken action on charges of hoarding and creating artificial shortages, selling expired food items and failing to maintain transaction records. Depending on the severity of the misconduct, the firms were penalized with the amount between Rs 5,000 and Rs 300,000, according to the department.


Similarly, the DoCSCP sealed 10 firms for not abiding with the state laws. Of the rest, the authority asked 668 firms to improve their outlets and service delivery.
