KATHMANDU, Nov 29: Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has directed Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) management committee to submit details of outstanding dues of international airlines operating flights to Kathmandu within three days.

Around two dozen international airlines have dues worth nearly Rs 2.5 billion to pay to the airport management.

CAAN has formed a probe team under the leadership of Birendra Prasad Shrestha, deputy director of CAAN, after TIA General Manager Devananda Upadhyaya and his team failed to recover dues from the airlines.  “

"We have directed the TIA management to submit details of dues of airlines companies within three days," Shrestha said: "We will also discuss the matter with the concerned airlines."

The committee has been given 15 days to submit its report.

According to CAAN sources, airline companies owe Rs 2.47 billion that includes airport development free, landing and parking fee, air transportation fee, security fee and other fees, as of mid-July.

When Republica broke the story on November 23, representatives of some airlines argued that they have paid all fees to the TIA management. However, they have been unable to furnish proof.

Meanwhile, Board of Airlines Representative in Nepal (BARN), the representative body of international airlines operating in Nepal, issued a press statement on Tuesday, claiming that airlines have no outstanding dues toward the TIA.
