Four Nepali players win on first day

KATHMANDU, Feb 6: Four Nepali players have registered wins on the first day of the ongoing Nepal ITF Junior U-18 Tennis on Monday.

KATHMANDU, Feb 6: Four Nepali players have registered wins on the first day of the ongoing Nepal ITF Junior U-18 Tennis on Monday.  



Pranab Khanal saw off India’s Aditya Chopra 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the boys’ category, while Mahika Rana, Ira Rawat, and Prerana Koirala also bagged wins in the girls’ category. Rana defeated India’s Hridaya Shah on straight sets of 6-1, 6-0, Rawat beat Asprit Kaur Bajwa of India 6-1, 7-5 and Koirala saw off India’s Gauri Agrawal in a hard fought 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Meanwhile, Nepal’s Nishan Shrestha, Ivak Joshi, Abhilasha Bista, Prakriti Shrestha, Saloni Tamang, and Mayanka Rana suffered losses in the first round. In the boys’ category, India’s Rishav Agrawal overcame Shrestha 6-3, 6-1, while Joshi lost 6-0, 6-1 against Bansh Bhagtani of India.


Similarly, in the girls’ category, Philippines’ Isabella Carlos beat Bista 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, while Shrestha could not even get a point in the match and was defeated 6-0, 6-0 by India’s Prinkle Singh. Also, Hong Kong’s Chui Kei Liyung and India’s Smriti Basin saw off Tamang and Rana 6-1, 6-0 and 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 respectively.
