FDI inflow declined by 64 percent in first 10 months of FY 2022/23

KATHMANDU, June 11: Nepal received 64 percent less foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, compared to the same period last year.

KATHMANDU, June 11: Nepal received 64 percent less foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, compared to the same period last year.  



According to the last 10 months’ data maintained by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the country received a total FDI of mere Rs 6.16 billion during mid-July 2022 and mid-May 2023. In the same period of the fiscal year 2021/22, the amount was recorded at Rs 17.08 billion.

Meanwhile, the repatriation amount surged by a whopping amount. The foreign companies took away Rs 1.80 billion, up from Rs 442 million during the review period. Foreign companies that have invested in Nepal take the return of investment in the form of profits and royalties.
