Fake Bhutanese refugee scam: Defendants to testify in court from today

KATHMANDU, May 26: The defendants in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam will start testifying before the court from today. 



On Wednesday, cases were filed against 30 people in the district court of Kathmandu on five charges in the case of fake Bhutanese refugees scam. While 16 of them have been arrested, 14 others are currently on the run.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, former Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, then Home Minister's security adviser Indrajit Rai, Nepali Congress (NC) leader Keshav Dulal, Sanu Bhandari are Sandesh Sharma are among those arrested in that case.


According to the District Public Prosecutor's Office Kathmandu, it will take about two weeks after the hearing of the fake Bhutanese refugee case. It is said that the hearing will be conducted through a lottery system.
