ILAM, Jan 16: With the pneumonia of his right lungs continuously worsening, Dr Govinda KC’s condition has deteriorated further on the seventh day of his fast-unto-death strike.

Doctors attending to him have advised that Dr KC should be transferred to intensive care unit (ICU) without further delay. However, Ilam Hospital, where he is currently being treated, does not have this facility and necessary specialized doctors.

“The level of oxygen in his body is just 80 percent. His immune system is already weakened, and hence he is highly vulnerable to diseases,” said Dr Bijendra Kumar Sah of Ilam Hospital.

Dr KC, senior orthopedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), has refused to be transferred to hospital with better facilities. However, to much relief of doctors attending to him, Dr KC has agreed to take antibiotics which he had previously refused.

The team attending to Dr KC has limited the number of his daily visitors to prevent him from infections. He was brought to Ilam Hospital on Tuesday but doctors have already begun voicing the need to transfer him to a hospital with better facilities.

Likewise, locals of Ilam also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister KP Oli, requesting him to save Dr KC’s life. The memorandum was submitted through the chief district officer.
