MALEKHU, Dec 24: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has asserted that the obstruction of the parliamentary proceedings would only profit autocracy and extremism in the country.

Addressing a religious fair at Dhola VDC in Dhading on Saturday, Minister Mahat urged the major opposition CPN (UML) to be sensitive towards the rights of the people's representatives to partake in the deliberations in the parliament.

The UML as well as other fringe parties have been obstructing the House in protest of the constitution amendment bill registered on November 29 seeking to address the concerns of the Madhes-centric political parties.

Minister Mahat insisted that issues relating to the amendment to the new national statute were matters of public concern.

Stating that the country would get outlet with the effective implementation of the new constitution, Minister Mahat underscored preparations among the political parties for the local level election which he said would aid the constitution implementation process.

He asserted that although Nepal was a land of Hindu and Buddhist religion since ancient time, the new constitution incorporates provisions for preservation and propagation of all religions, cultures and traditions in practice since time immemorial.

On the occasion, Nepali Congress (NC) Dhading Chapter Chief Ramesh Dhamala shared that the NC was going to launch a campaign in view of all three levels of elections.

Another NC leader Dr Rajaram Karki urged the party leadership to pitch for declaring Nepal a Hindu nation. His urge was further illustrated by the fact he brought to fore that Nepal is home to more than 76 per cent of Omkar Family according to the last census in 2011. RSS
