KATHMANDU, July 16: As many as 150 Nepali security guards have already returned to Afghanistan after last month's gruesome attack.
Following immense pressure from the migrant workers who were in Nepal on leave, the government had lifted ban for those who want to re-enter Afghanistan, according to Rama Bhattarai, monitoring director at the Department of Foreign Employment. The ministry last week formally decided to lift ban for the migrant workers who are in Nepal on leave.
Migrant workers who want to re-enter Afghanistan, however, need to fill a declaration form, according to her. “Migrant workers should declare that they will work only in green zone.”
“The government allows migrant workers to go to Afghanistan but at their own risk,” she said, adding that migrant workers who wish to return to Afghanistan should also declare that they have completed all legal procedures including insurance and other issues.
The department informed that it has developed a form that helps keep details of migrant workers leaving for Afghanistan. The department has also asked the immigration office at the Tribhuvan International Airport to ensure that every person going to Afghanistan fills the form.
The government has banned Afghanistan as an employment destination for Nepalis following the killing of 13 Nepali security guards working at the Canadian embassy there last month. Hundreds of migrant workers have been demanding that the government allow them to return to Afghanistan for jobs despite last week's fatal Taliban attack.
