Controversial Amendment Bill that sets five-year statute of limitation on corruption cases being reverted to parliamentary thematic committee

KATHMANDU, May 15: The controversial Corruption Control (First Amendment) Bill 2077 BS is set to be discussed twice in the Parliamentary Thematic Committee.



The meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Monday has a possible agenda to send this bill to the relevant committee. In this Bill, there is a provision that people who hold public office should be prosecuted only within a certain period of time.

According to the provision in the bill, such persons will not be prosecuted if there is no investigation on the cases within the five-year period. In the bill, there is no limit on corruption of damage to public property. The statute of limitation is said to be five years from the date the notification to this effect is received.


Section 16 of the Anti-corruption Bill has provisions regarding the duration of the trial. "The statute of limitation period for prosecuting corruption offenses will be five years from the date the notification is received," reads a provision in the Bill.
