Clash between cadres of ruling alliance and UML in Phubari of Taplejung

TAPLEJUNG, Nov 20: Voting has been temporarily halted in Phubari polling station at ward 2 of Atharai Tribeni Rural Municipality of Taplejung due to a clash between cadres of the ruling coalition and CPN-UML.

TAPLEJUNG, Nov 20: Voting has been temporarily halted in Phubari polling station at ward 2 of Atharai Tribeni Rural Municipality of Taplejung due to a clash between cadres of the ruling coalition and CPN-UML.



The police had fire shots in the air and also baton-charged the crowd to bring the situation under control. District Police Chief DSP Kailash Rai said that the situation is becoming normal in the area. The locals reported that the police fired four rounds in the air after the situation became tense.

Chief District Officer Mahesh Kumar Pokharel said that since the situation is moving towards normalcy, they are ready to resume the voting which has been halted for the time being.


By this afternoon, 33.4 percent votes had been cast in the district, according to CDO Pokharel. 


The district election management committee said that the voting is underway peacefully except for some sporadic incidents. CDO Pokharel informed that a suspected object filled with explosives exploded at the Yanglijung polling station in Fungling but it did not cause any damage. He said that voting is underway despite the blast.
