CHITWAN, Nov 28: Doctors from Bharatpur staged a protest on Monday demanding with the government to fulfill the demands put forth by Govinda KC, a senior orthopedic surgeon at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH).
Dr KC is on a hunger strike at the hospital since past 16 days demanding reforms in the medical education sector.
Central member of National Health Workers' Association (NHWA), Dr Krishna Paudel said, “Dr KC has been staging a fast-unto-death since 16 days. The government’s negligence has put his life in a danger. We can’t stay mum in such a situation.”
NHWA Chitwan, President Dr Prakash Khatiwada said, “Dr KC has demanded to provide good health facilities to the poor. He believes that a person should be provided with the opportunity of medical education analyzing his/her abilities despite being financially weak.”
He added that such people-oriented demands should be addressed by the government.
“We are not going to tolerate the ignorance of the government,” he said.
Also speaking, Dr Kalidas Adhikari said that all should press the government to address the demands raised by Dr KC.
NHWA Chitwan Secretary Dr Bhojraj Adhikari said that fulfilling the demands put forth by Dr KC not only contributes to the health sector but also to the social welfare of the country.
NHWA has decided to take out a protest rally tomorrow as well.
