Call to follow livestock transportation guidelines

KATHMANDU, Oct 13: The Department of Livestock Service has warned of action against anyone found transporting livestock in the rooftop or trunk of passenger vehicles.

KATHMANDU, Oct 13: The Department of Livestock Service has warned of action against anyone found transporting livestock in the rooftop or trunk of passenger vehicles. 



It has thereby appealed to all concerned to follow the Livestock Service Act, 2055 and Livestock Transportation Standard 2064. As per the regulations, one can be fined up to five thousand rupees or jailed for three months if found guilty of committing such acts.

Issuing a statement on Friday, the Department has drawn attention of one and all considering the transportation of goat, sheep, mountain goat, buffaloes and poultry for the purpose of meat consumption in the Bada Dashain festival. According to a data, meat worth more than five billion rupees is consumed in Kathmandu valley every year. 


Certification of origin and verification by a registered veterinarian is essential in order to transport livestock from one district to another, while efforts needs to be made to treat the animals and poultry humanely, as per the guidelines.
