KATHMANDU, July 24: The Birgunj Customs Office (BCO) collected Rs 204.12 billion in customs revenue in the last fiscal year, which was just above its target of Rs 203.02 billion.
On an average, the BCO collected daily revenue of Rs 479.18 million, which, however, was less than the daily target of Rs 543.92 million during fiscal year 2021/22. The revenue collection at this customs point was encouraging mainly during three months starting from mid-July to mid-October 2021.

During these three months, the customs revenue collection was up to 20.50 percent more than the target. After the government adopted an import restriction policy, citing the excessive surge in import expenses, the achievement in revenue collection in the rest of the months of the fiscal year at the customs point was below the target, shows the records with the BCO.
Last year, Nepal imported goods worth Rs 706 billion through this customs point. The main imported goods via the BCO include petroleum products, crude soybean oil, plastic coated paper, polythene granules, shampoo, vehicles and spare parts, textiles, furnish oil, electric appliances, plumbing materials and food supplements, among others.
