Sanju Sherpa is a 17-year-old girl who loves to cycle. She recently joined Humanities stream for her high school education at Premiere College, New Baneshwar. She says her interests lie in arts and reading stories. Originally from Kathmandu, Sanju says she likes the city only because she was born here. She says the increasing pollution and crowd in Kathmandu has left nothing likeable in the city. “Despite being the capital city, the society here still holds narrow–minded beliefs. Girls should be trusted and encouraged to live free as well as be independent,” she says. She adds that her parents don’t trust her with riding bicycle along the main roads due to heavy and congested traffic. She aspires to become a creative writer after her plus two education and then pursue a diploma course in designing. Although she wants to start a job right away, her minimum educational qualification doesn’t get her any work, she says. She, however, spends her spare time helping her mother at a hotel they own.
