All arrested demonstrators in Balkumari incident released

KATHMANDU, Dec 31: The police have released all 73 individuals who were arrested during the protest demonstration at Balkumari in Lalitpur on Friday.

KATHMANDU, Dec 31: The police have released all 73 individuals who were arrested during the protest demonstration at Balkumari in Lalitpur on Friday.



Central Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Kuber Kadayat has informed Republica that all those arrested during the demonstration, which sought permission to apply for jobs in the manufacturing sector in Korea through the Employment Permit System (EPS) and complete the language test application, have been released. He confirmed that all those detained during the protest have been released.

DIG Kadayat stated, "All those arrested during the demonstration have been released, and it has been decided not to prosecute them." The arrests were made on charges of setting fire to the vehicle of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Prakash Jwala and vandalizing his property.


During the protest, 23-year-old Sujan Rawat from Mahabu Rural Municipality-6 in Dailekh and 22-year-old Birendra Shah from Chaurpati Rural Municipality-1 in Acham lost their lives. The government has also decided to provide cash relief of Rs 1 million each to the families of Rawat and Shah who lost their lives.
