Mani Ratnam directorial Ponniyin Selvan is making a lot of noise. The high budget drama is much in news for its stellar star cast. News is that one of the location where the film will be shot in is based in North India. There are hardly any South films that are shot in the North and Ponniyin Selvan will be one of them.
As per sources, the Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer will be shot in Madhya Pradesh where the Chola period will be replicated. It will be shot in Kerala, Chennai and also in the dense jungles of Thailand. The period film which is set in the 10th century and will be made in two parts, reportedly stars Vijay Sethupathi, Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi and Keerthy Suresh. Like Ponniyin Selvan, there are two famous south films that were shot in north. The films include Kamal Haasan starrrer Tamil comedy drama Uttama Villain (2015) and Mani Ratnam’s Tamil romantic drama Alaipayuthey (2000). The song Snehithane from Mani's directorial was shot at Fort Ahilya of the Holkar dynasty, in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh.
