20% discount on electricity bill in offing

KATHMANDU, March 28: The government has set to provide 20% discount on the electricity bill to 3.8 million consumers who use less than 150 units of electricity per month.



A meeting between the Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barshaman Pun and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) board of directors on Friday decided to ask the council of ministers to endorse the proposal.

The government in a bid to increase the consumption of electricity has been asking people to shift to induction stoves. The demand for electricity has dropped after the announcement of nationwide lockdown from Tuesday because of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.


The subsidy plan will cost the government Rs 500 million. NEA had collected Rs 30 billion from electricity bills last year.
