KATHMANDU, April 27: The deadline given by the province chief to form a new government in Lumbini is ending at 4 pm today.
Provincial Governor Amik Sherchan on Tuesday evening called for the formation of the government according to Article 168 of the Constitution.
With the call of the provincial chief, the opposition parties in the provincial assembly are engaged in internal discussions for the leadership of the new government. Although the coalition held discussions on Tuesday and Wednesday, there was no agreement on the new government and its leadership.

A month ago, the opposition parties proposed Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary, the leader of the Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary party, as the chief minister. They also submitted a claim that the government should be formed according to Article 168(2) of the constitution.
But as the Maoist Center could not be convinced for the second term, the agreement could not be reached on Wednesday.
NC chief whip Janmdev Timalsena said that preparations are underway to stake claim for the government's leadership within the time period given by the province chief for the formation of a new government.
The chief whip Timilsena hinted that the issue of power sharing between the coalition parties has been discussed at various stages but has not been resolved yet. He claimed that this issue will be resolved through discussions after staking claim for the new government.
The UML-led government fell after CPN-UML parliamentary party leader and Chief Minister Leela Giri failed to win a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly on Monday. Giri was appointed as the Chief Minister on January 11, according to Article 186 (2) of the Constitution.
